Depending on the situation, it would not be unexpected to find the non-medical staff assisting with procedures to which they are not normally exposed. A willingness to help can be completely invalidated by a lack of preparation. In an emergency, a person's value does not have any correlation to their day job. A cup of coffee or a soothing word in ones native tongue can be the difference between maintaining calm and adding to the confusion.
