What is the importance of maintaining security and confidentiality?

many fields are required by law to maintain confidentiality of their patients/clients/etc. intentional breachs of security/confidentiality can sometimes get you fired. is that important enough for you? unintentional breachs may just be a reprimand, but when it comes time for a promotion that will be a huge factor.
There is that importance in any occupation.
