I want to apply for a new postion witihin my company but afraid of getting laughed at and turned down. For the last 12 years I have worked as a CNA in nurisng homes, private duty, telemetry, ob and now the ER for the last year. I went back to school and have two more semeters until I complet my bachlors. My current job in a hospital is hiring for a coordinator for pediatrics and it is a leadership/professional position although they only required a high school diploma. My intrest is with women and children issues, eduction and community helath so this is right for me to gain valueable experince. However i do not want to feel silly for applying for a postion they might never give to a CNA as we are used to be the low man on the totum pole. My manger will know of this inquiry of a postion and I am afraid of failure or someone telling me I do not qualify for this postion and me having to accept that, plus still work with these people. Is this self sabatoge on my part?
If you don't go for this you will constantly wonder what if? And you will see that someone else who lacks in your personality and experience will get the job when you are more than deserving and capable of doing this job. I think you know within yourself with 12 years under your belt that this job was made for you and you deserve the increase in pay - don't you think you deserve the money and should be living well so you no longer have to worry. Let that be a thing of the past. Because someone else will be enjoying the salary you allowed them to have if you don't go for it. Don't worry about your bosses or what anyone else thinks for that matter you are living for your own survival and none of those people will be losing sleep over whether or not you got the job because everyone has there own lives to live. Plus your boss will probably wonder why you didn't go for the gig after all your years with the company. You need to change your mindset or you'll be in the same position until your 97yrs old. How do you figure you aren't qualified for the position, if they only require you to have a high school diploma for the job? You have a year of school left and will have completed your bachelors (in what?) and you have 12 years of experience in that hospital. It sounds like you have a good deal of experience and qualifications for the job. You definately SHOULD apply if you are interested. Even if you don't get the job, it will be good experience to go through the interview, and to update your resume. Go for it! And don't worry what other people think of you!
