How much do physician assistants make? |
lets say right out of school, 5 years experience, and 10 years experience in a large metropolitan area You can get national averages from the AAPA--they survey & publish every year. It does depend on the specialty as well--and it follows MD salaries--Family practice make some of the lowest while surgical subspecialties make the highest. Thise answers that gave you really low figures are probably thinking of medical assistants, not PAs. I work "per diem" (when I feel like it) and get about $45.00- $55.00 per hour/ 12 hour shift in the ER--I have been a PA since 1985 and have all critical care experience and a ER PA residency. i have no idea 5 years (ON Averg)=29k 10 years (ON AVERF)=38K Hospital HR dept 22 years Average starting salary is about $63,000. Average overall is around $72,000. Once you've been working for a year or so in just about any career, it isn't so much the experience that gets you more pay so much as it is staying with one employer and gaining seniority. In many cases, you might have 10 years of experience, but if you go look for another job, they might still pay you far less than one of their current employees who have worked there for the last 10 years. Not always - but it does work like that quite a bit. Starting out $20k Jill has it about right to start, but you have the potential for over $200,000 a year in private practice. Experience and who you work for play a big part of it. |
