Career choices similar to nursing with similar pre reqs?

I'm a 21/m and I have completed all the nursing pre reqs including anatomy and physiology 1 and 2...chemistry...etc.

What other career choices are out there for me with the same kind of background knowledge? I'd like to explore other options that I might decide are better for me than nursing BEFORE I apply for nursing school. Thanks.

you are making a smart decision to check out other possibilities before going to nursing school. AVOID RESPIRATORY!!! most hospitals work short staffed in the resp dept. and yes they answer code calls but so does the whole resp dept including the supervisor. these credentials in resp are worthless when you burn out in this field, so its back to school again. x-ray is your best bet with the ability to move on to nuclear med, sonography, etc. however, nursing credentials will offer you other areas to work in after working the hospital . REMEMBER, most of these jobs you will be working weekends, nights and holidays. do you really want that. RRT for 10 yrs. (wish i would have had advise prior to the decision i made---now its too late). old and ready to retire.
There are many departments that need help in the medical field. Respiratory therapy, as a CRT or RRT you help people breath better using exercises to drugs to ventilators that breath for them. Respiratory is a large part of the code team and that is where the excitement is, if you are into that. There is also a lot of diagnostic positions within this field doing pulmonary functions studies to sleep studies. Radiology also has many different directions to go with things like ct scans. Sonography looks at new pregnancy or can see see the valves in your heart. Physical therapy and occupational therapy are great careers. Rehabilitation of a person is a rewarding and loved thing to do. Paramedics get the initial on the scene care that hero's are made of. There are many more choices but don't give up on nursing, it is a great career with unlimited potential.
