I need to know different careers for medical fields...? |
i have a project in my school, im in this clinical rotation class, but i know there's diffrent kinds but i don't know there names.... i know there is: eye doctors (but i don't know what they may be called..the one that takes the exam for glasses), and a lot of people are doing registered nurse, so i don't want to do that...but what else is there that i could do?? please help me find some with some sites that i could go and find it for myself and check it out, thanks! There's a good list here: http://www.alec.co.uk/free-career-assess... I think it would be fun to be a registered dietician. You could be a sadist and not get into too much trouble. Well, Johnny, apparently you have an iron deficiency, so I'm going to recommend 5 cups of spinach daily. :) Just kidding. I could never be that mean. EDIT: I thought I would paste that list since it you have to scroll down to see the US Medical positions. Well an optometrist is an eye doctor who examines eyes and prescribes glasses as well as being able to prescribe eye drops. However, the optometrist is Not allowed to perform surgery or (I believe) prescribe internal medicines such as an antibiotic taken by way of the mouth ('by mouth'). The opthalmologist is the actual medical doctor that has gone to medical school and has the credentials of either an M.D. (medical doctor) or D.O. (doctor of osteopathy) who can legally perform surgery and prescribe any kinds of medication necessary. Other careers related to medicine which are sometimes referred to as 'allied health' careers include physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, speech pathologist, x-ray technican/radiologic tech and health information technician (used to be referred to as medical records tech). Just fyi, I've heard here and on other boards that there are not too many jobs available these days for the medical assistant or medical biller or medical coder. For more general info on careers: US occupational outlook handbook www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'optometrist', 'health information technician', 'physical therapist assistant' or such. There are NUMEROUS careers within Healthcare. I suggest looking at some of your local hospital's job postings. Most of them will have a brief synopsis of the job's responsibilities and requirements. That will give you a starting point. Choose some jobs that look intriguing to you and do some searches online (wikipedia, google, etc) and what those jobs entail and what is needed to complete a degree in that field. Good luck! |
