I want to be an EMT?

I'm 15, going to be 16 on September 14th, and I want to become an EMT. How would I go about doing this? I live in Indiana.

in the state of tn, you must be 18 to be an emt and 21 to drive the ambulance... of course it is always the emt that drives so here and most states you would be out of luck until you were 21.. but you could also start working on your medic liscense by then... do a google search for colleges in your area that offer emt classes... this is a non credited course so you will not be able to get any grants for it.. good luck!!!! ask your school's guidance counceler or visit your local fire department. my older brother was an emt in california until he was injured. any ways when we were young he used to be at the fire house all the time. so i bet a fireman could point you in the right direction.
some schools offer classes take the classes then you can get certifed after the class.
To add to the other ideas, perhaps you can check with your local ambulance company about training available. I'm sure that they could really use volunteers and perhaps that training would even be free of charge (just guessing).

Here is general career information -- US occupational outlook handbook: www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'emergency medical technician' or such.
In most states you must be the age of 18 to receive your EMT-B certification. Some towns throughout the US have waivers given to them by the state to allow people at the age of 16.5 years to receive their license. This is how I obtained mine. I would check around with some of the local ambulance companies to see if this is an option.

Otherwise if you can't I would suggest calling up some of the ambulances to see if you can do ride along time, or be a probationary member. You could also get yourself an EMT course book, (ex: Brady) and just read through it and get ahead before you can take the class. Another option i would strongly suggest, is obtain your CPR and First aid certification and act as a first responder.
