I'm in high school, and i need to know from people who are in this field, is it hard? What do i need to do?
Disability Studies is a rather broad topic. There are different career paths in order to work with people with disabilities. If you would like to help those with limitations attain employment and provide counseling into the various aspects of their lives, perhaps a rehabilitation counselor (to become a CRC/certified rehabilitation counselor) would be an option. I'm not sure about the job market for them, however. One would need their master's degree which includes fieldwork/clinicals for those credentials.
Other jobs that work with that population include physical therapist (typically need master's degree), occupational therapist (both physical and occupational therapy can be physically and emotionally exhausting, just fyi) and health psychologist (typically need ph.d.).
Here is a website for general career information -- US occupational outlook handbook: www.bls.gov/oco and can type into search 'rehabilitation counselor', 'physical therapist', 'health psychologist' (or may just be under 'psychologist') or any other career that piques one's interest. Good luck to you in your endeavors! You sound like you have a great head on your shoulders to have such a particular interest and passion to make such a positive impact on others.
