I want to be in the medical field, so after high school? |
well i live in Atlanta and i want to be a type of doctor/surgeon and i hear it's about 4 years of college and 4 years of medical school then residency, this "4 years of college" is done in a state college like University of Georgia? or can it be done in Emory University? does anyone know if both schools offer medical programs to become doctors, i mean do i take like a state college for the first 4 years then switch to a different one for medical school? i'm confused, anyway any help is appreciated, thanks. 4 years of college = get an undergraduate bachelor's degree from an accredited university. UGA, Emory, etc. are fine. It doesn't matter if it's a state uni or private, just go to the best uni that you can. You can even study the first 2 years at a 2-year community college and then transfer to a university for your junior & senior year. Medical school = is a graduate school. After you graduate from college with a bachelor's degree you can go to medical school. Some universities offer pre-med undergraduate programs. These are programs that are created especially for students planning to go to medical school. Also many medical students major in science degrees like Biology. You can actually major in anything you want, but if you end up majoring in something like liberal arts, you will probably have to take extra science classes that are required for med school (whereas in a science program those classes are already included). You also have to take the MCAT, which is the standardized admission test for med school. I believe you take your four years at a University. If it is a better school you will probably get more offers from better medical school. Then you go on for your next four years at a medical school and the residency. |
