I may have to choose between Dentistry and Pharmacy? Which would you pick?

Why? (Taking into account: hours, flexibility - e.g. if I had children I would want to work part-time, job opportunities, working environment, degree of difficulty, prospects for further study, etc)

I don't know much about the Dentristry field, but I am currently a Pharmacy (Pharm.D) student, so I can give information on that. If you want to be a Pharmacist, you need 2 years of pre-pharmacy classes (biology, chemistry, core classes such as that) and then 4 years of Pharmacy classes. If you have a bachelor's degree in science, you may have already taken most of the core classes and skip the 2 years of pre-pharmacy. I chose Pharmacy because there are so many job oppertunities out there. You can make over $75,000 a year (upwards of $100,000 in many cases). When you graduate, you may be able to find a place of employment that pays for some, if not all, of your tuition, and even give you a nice bonus.

If you want to be a Pharm Tech, you will probably need to look into certification.

I have worked as a tech in both a retail and a hospital setting before applying to school. I think the hospital setting is a more stimulating environment, but that's mainly due to my own personal experience. It tends to pay less than retail, but you seem to have more pharmacists/techs, which allows for greater schedule flexibility.

In case you were curious, the reason I didn't go into the Dentistry field is because I don't want to be hunched over all day looking into people's mouths. It's a nice 9 to 5 type job, but it's not for me. Figuring out what drug would heal a patient is more intellictually stimulating to me than figuring out what tooth to extract, although Dentists and Pharmacists both have their needed place in society.
I'd say a Pharmacy technician Im currently going to school for medical billing but Im planning to take up Pharmacy tech Dentistry is a good field too the pay is really good Which ever one u do choose are both goo choices good luck!
Check out pharmacy!

Here is why:

1) Most starting salary is 75-150k depending on location and need

2) Most jobs are the usual 9-5

3) You will finish faster compared to medical school

4) You will not have to deal with blood, other than your own from a paper cut. As a doc, you will be exposed to blood, guts and human bodily fluids all day long.

5) You will get the chance to see and spend time with family

6) You will get a job anywhere because there is a pharmacist shortage in the US

7) It is a clean and nice environment!

Good Luck with your decision!
