Occupational socialization...............

How can an experienced nurse deal with all the "socialization" in a new job and be able to survive? I have been out of nursing for 13 years (my choice) simply because of burnout and seeming as though I could never get ahead. Now I am a widow and I returned to work but the way nursing seems to be is horrible - by this I mean the nurses have one thing on their feeble minds these days and it is MONEY! It isn't what is best for the patient, but what is best for them or the hospital. Hospitals are businesses and nothing more. My boss is cruel and autocratic and I don't know how to deal with her and how to put her in her place. She has no authority - really - as the director does, but the director has no power - she'd get that from hospital management. It is really making my come-back hard. What do I do?

Welcome to the NHS.
My mum, who trained as a nurse nearly 30 years refuses to work for the NHS now because of the problems you have described.
She works for a private clinic now, ironically a real business which the NHS is trying to be run like.
She took nearly 15 years out like yourself but it was to look after me and my brother.
Dont fight the system because it will break you. A friend of mines sister has recently trained at addenbrookes in cambridge as a nurse. There arent any jobs at addenbrookes or in cambridgeshire for her though.
Do what my mum did and get a job in the private sector, or perhaps in residential homes. Much better pay and conditions and the people are usually nicer because they are not run down.

And try not too blame the rest of the staff, they care about money because they have families to support and bills to pay and they slave for hours with very little reward while the hospital sees fit to spend thousands on a picture for the main entrance.
This sounds just like your other question yet worded a little differently
