I am seeking career help from any healthcare expert out there. I am wanting to go back to college to pursue for starters an associate's degree and then get a good paying job and perhaps go back and get a bachelors degree if neccesary. The only problem I am facing is finding a very rewarding career for me that will allow me to work with others, help others who want to live a better and healthier life, and see that I can make a difference in someone else. What kind of careers are out there for a guy like me who wants to feel great about what I do, and also have a very rewarding career with a good salary and working with a great team of healthcare experts? For those who respond to my question, can you tell me what you do for a living, what education you go and where from, and what do you love most about your job? I am very distraught right now because I am confused on what I should do and I just need a little friendly advice on what to do,seek advice from the ones who care. God Bless
I went into nursing as an adult student, a total career change for me! I cant think of any other job that could be quite as rewarding, its a great feeling to be helping people recover and get through illness and trauma. It is wonderful to feel needed. Every day is different and there is no opportunity for boredom, different problems, different people, different activities. Really keeps you on your toes, especially with advances in medicine. Salary is OK, could be better, and the job is certainly not paid enough for what we do, but it pays the bills, keeps the car on the road and holidays arent out of the question. I get to work with a good team of healthcare experts, doctors, consultants, surgeons, nurse specialists, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists..... the list is endless! Its very rewarding pulling all these specialities and skills together in order to get someone better and back home.
My background? Was an accountant then went back to university for three years to get my nursing qualifications and registration. Now nursing on a surgical ward and really enjoying it. What do I love most about my job? The patients. Without a doubt. I enjoy meeting new people and putting them at ease in what is often a very stressful situation. I believe laughter is very important in my job and love to hear my patients chatting away and making friends with each other, comparing wounds and complaining about the hospital food. The hugs I get when patients are discharged are priceless too and are possibly the best thing about the whole job.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do! |
