Advancing in Nursing career... any suggestions?

I am 2 weeks short from completing a CNA course in my town, and I will also have a CPR class/certification after I graduate. I am really excited about it although it's going to be my debut in the healthcare career. I think I will really enjoy caring for people as a CNA but I just don't want to stay there. I want to take other courses to advance in my career. Not just for the money, but really specialize, study, research, help people the best I can, somehow contribute with my knowledge and experience to the healthcare industry. What suggestions can you guys give me? Some of my classmates are going to take other classes after our course is over, for example Phlebotomy. Others are going to their RN degree. Suggestions? Please answer only if you are a nurse or from the healthcare field.

I'm only going to answer this because my mother is a nurse and my sister is in nursing school, seven years or so after she completed her CNA course.

The RN program is quite hard to get into and is also quite competitive, which makes no sense whatsoever because of the nursing shortages. She would recommend taking on a CNA program, whether at a hospital or nursing home, just to get a feel of what you want to or don't want to do. Then you can go on into anesthesiology or neo-natal care, LPN or RN and the field is wide open from there. My best advice would be to get experience first. Because no matter which job you do choose, it will make you money.
You sound very interested in the medical field...After you get your CNA, if I were you I would advance further like becoming an RN while working, if you can...You can make much more money that way.
