To any Physical Therapist Assistant(PTA)? |
I am wanting to find information on careers as a PTA. I am going to go to my local community college and they are going to be having a PTA program in fall of 2008. So I am going to take classes that lead up to that until then. I was wanting to get a response from anyone who was a PTA. I was wanting to find out if that is a 2-year associate's degree? I know PT's require a masters now. I know I can make a good living being a PTA and would have my rewards and happiness. I was thinking about the nursing school, but seeing difficulties there and hearing about getting burntout and etc... Plus I have always considered pta more than nursing. I can make a great living being a pta and having rewards of helping others get better in health and putting a smile on my face for helping them. So can anyone tell me what they love about their job, and why they choose to be a PTA? Thank you and god bless! Hi, it's me again, I know I've answered some of your questions before...I am glad to hear you've decided on PTA school...I wish you all the luck! Hopefully, you are not sick of hearing from me...but I can answer your questions about the program. Yes, it is usually a two year degree. Some of that may change in the future, but currently, most PTA programs are an associate's degree. One thing I would like to caution you about. It's always enticing to hear when a school is going to "open" a program. They may even offer some good scholarships. However, what you must know is that this program is not yet accredited. To sit for a licensure exam, you MUST graduate from an accredited program. Accreditation will be contingent on CAPTE reviewing the records of the program and how well the first year students do on the licensure exam...if they do not meet the standards, they will not be accredited rendering your degree useless. If you can, apply to a program that is already accredited (or at the very least, try to get this school to send a little scholarship money your way...at least you wouldn't be out the tuition if the school doesn't pass CAPTE). I really do think you would enjoy being a PTA...I hope it works out for you.. Source(s): PT |
