Do you know of any program scholarship or bursary in BC to fully fund or help pay for training to become an RN |
I have a friend who wants to go to school to change careers and become an RN. He doesn't qualify for E.I. funding. I can't believe there's nothing available for someone, especially a male, who wants to fill one of those empty slots. Do you know of any programs or have any ideas or leads we can pursue? I am afraid this answer will not be terribly helpful, but I will still tell you what I can. There are several organizations here in the US which specialize in small, hidden scholarships and grants for students. They generally specialize in non-traditional students, and a man who is changing careers and going into a field so closely associated with women would probably qualify for their help. They only work with US students and schools, but I am quite certain there must be something similar in Canada (I assume BC means British Columbia). Some of those organizations don't even have a presence on the internet. I found out about them when I worked for our local library. I have been thinking about going back and finishing my degree, and then going on to graduate school, and since I am non-traditional in that I am a woman of 39 who has been out of school for some time, I know that when it is time to go back, I will search out those organizations and try to get them to help me. The ones I know of are all non-profit organizations. Many of them were funded by grants from wealthy donors, and some of them take donations from the same people who offer the scholarships to keep themselves in business. The only thing I know for certain is that they do not charge the students who are looking for financial assistance. I would not trust any program which asked for money! I suggest he do some research and ask for help at a local library. He might also try talking with the financial aid office at the school he plans to attend, though those are frequently focused on the more traditional things like large famous scholarships and government loans.
