In US, yes as long as you check off the corresponding box.Yes you can, if you go to H&R block they will fill it out both ways and tell you which way is better for you to file to get the most back or pay the least. Yes in the USA... There is a box to check In America, there is a category "married, filing separately." I don't know where you are, so I can't be sure. But generally, the tax laws are designed to give a tax advantage to a married couple where only one of them has a full-time job. That is, where their incomes are very different. If they have similar incomes, it is usually to their advantage to file separately. I suppose the exceptions would have to do with one of them having unusual deductible expenses, such as medical, where that might offset the similarity in their incomes. But I'm not a tax lawyer or accountant or anything; I worked for a tax lawyer for awhile. yes married couple can file income tax return separately. If wife and husband earn separately then they have to file return separately. There is not any compalion where couple have to file jointly. Because by filing return separately they can enjoy sepatate deduction. Specially wife's income is exempted up to 135000 and husband income is exempted up to 100000 and they both can investment up to 200000..only in the case of clubbing the income which is covered u/s 60 of income tax act where husband has to liable to pay tax on wife income. |
