Can you become an insurance agent if you have a non violent felony?

Very rarely would they allow this.
If you really want to become an agent...you may want to try to seek an expungement of your record or even petition your Governor's office for a pardon. If you tell them its so you can be an insurance agent and you've been squeakly clean and your conviction was questionable, you may get lucky.
You can't get a license to sell insurance, ie, become an agent, with a felony, unless you have the direct permission of your state insurance commissioner.

It's actually easier to get that permission with a violent felony, than it is with a fiduciary related felony. If it's fiduciary, you're not likely to get the permission.
agent, 20+ years
Not in my state and this is non-negotiable by "special permission" from the Commissioner. Our law reads that a request for Producer licensing must be refused, or a renrewal request denied, if the applicant "has been convicted by final judgment in any state or federal court of a felony or crime involving moral turpitude."

So unless you're able to get your record expunged, you cannot get a license, whether the felony was violent OR non-violent.
