Do most medical plans cover you when you are out of the country on vacation? I was told Medicare does not.?

Independent insurance agents are invaluable here. One can search the market for a product that fits your needs. While Medicare only covers emergency and urgently needed care under limited circumstances, Aetna Medicare Advantage plans - Illinois, Indiana - in collar counties of Chicago for example have worldwide coverage with a $25 or $50 copay. Emergency Care copay is waived if you are immediately admitted to the hospital.

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans are all inclusive, typically include better coverage and cost much less than adding suppliment and drug plans to your traditional Medicare.

Aetna Medicare Advantage plans also cost the same for everyone regardless of your age, where as suppliment plans are priced with age breaks. No fair paying more just because you're older than the next person!

Travel insurance is available reasonably priced on our website. You can purchase on-line and print out your policy!

Medicare definitely does not. As for other plans, check your policy or contact the plan administrator. Many may require you to pay first and submit for reimbursement. If you're on a preferred provider network you probalby will have to use the more expensive POS option. If you're with an HMO you may not have any coverage at all. Again, check with the plan administrator or your primary care provider.
Medicare does not cover foreign health services. A separate policy would have to be purchased. I would certainly include the air ambulance option. Often Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans do cover foreign health services. You will still have to try and find an in-network provider for non-emergency situations. Ask ahead of time. Do not take a chance on finding yourself sick in Paraguay with no idea of how to get care.
ALL insurance companies vary... I just traveled and MINE did cover me. I have BCBS.

Just be sure to ask your agent before you travel. You may be able to get a small, short term travel policy just for your trip !
=^,,^=
Look for Medicare Supplement "F" with a bc/bs in your state, usually will pay "what medicare would pay in country" up to 50K for travelors.

OR call Peterson International, their age limit is high. 1-800-345-8816.

Medicare won't cover anything outside of the US.
