Nationwide Insurance Company--Good or Bad ?

I am looking at Nationwide and would liketo know their track record on claims, customer service, rates(competetive), and any other info available.

I would have to recommend Allstate. I had a claim for my fence. A tree blew over and fell on my 6' red cedar privacy fence. The day after I reported the claim I was called by the adjuster and he settled the claim right there on the phone! My check and estimate arrived in the mail that week! They estimated my fence for a little more than I actually paid. Very good company and my agent is awesome as well...he was the one that reported the claim for me.
Nationwide is a financially stable insurance company, rated highest ratings by Standard & Poor, and they have some of the fastest underwriting process and best service and obviously best ability to pay claims. As far as life insurance goes, they are very competitive regarding rates if you have no medical history, good weight for your height, low cholesterol, and obviously non smoker. I dont work for them, but I use them when the above situation comes across for potential clients. If you're gonna get rated, though, you might be able to go through a broker who can shop around for a good company based on your condition.
Strong company. What type of Insurance are you wondering about? There's only a handful that I see and trust out there, here they are:

Pacific Life
ING
AIG
Hancock good for long term care
Jefferson Pilot
West Coast Life (protective) good for term insurance
United of Omaha ( good for disability )
Lincoln Benefit (allstate)
Manulife

i'm an agent in NC and i have had a LOT of people come to me to rewrite coverage from Nationwide. Most seem to complain about their agent and they way they were treated, not about the company or rates, etc. I think if you want to write with them, you just need to find a good agent
Nationwide is on your side :)
My experience has been good. They take my money, pay the claims, and don't cause me any problems.

I keep shopping around for lower rates, but the lower rates are just barely lower - not worth the effort to switch.

My only caveat is that you need to already know how much insurance you really need. The minimum legal limits are truly inadequate given the expensive cars and SUV's on the road.
