Look in your local phone book and look for an Independent Insurance Agency....that is an Insurance agent that owns his own book of business and can broker you a contract or policy with a number of different companies. When you find the right company they can find you an insurance policy for a vacant dwelling....better to rent the home out and get a landlord policy as soon as possible though cause vacant policy don't cover much and they are very expensive.....Good Luck, Eunice Yes........if you have an "insurable interest". In other words, if you have a reason to be insuring it, like in you're closing on the sale of it that week. You can't just go, though, and insure an abandoned house. The insurance company won't let you insure a house that you have no business with. I once got the idea to buy life insurance policies on young men that live in dangerous neighborhoods. But a fella can't get rich that way because unless you're a family member or something you don't have an insurable interest and you're not allowed to use the insurance on persons or property in a money-making scheme. vacant dwelling policies are very expensive and usually can only be written for 3 months at a time - you would probably be better off letting someone live there for free ( a college student?) and carrying a dwelling fire policy ret agent When you say "house in pa no-one is living in," You need to make sure that you are using the right words or the most accurate words when you talk to your agent. There is a difference between a vacant house and an unoccupied house. Let your insurance agent explain the differences to you. If they can't or won't, then you might need to find a different agent. Then do what is necessary to make your house unoccupied.
