Louisiana state laws?

I am divored and remarried. When I remarried I filled out papers to change my beneficiary on my life insurance and 401 from my Ex to my current husband. They still have not made this change. I am in the process of doing this again, but is my current husband protected if I should die before this change occurs?
Thanks!

Your current husband is not "protected" by your life insurance until his name is listed as sole beneficiary in the Company's records.

Your current husband may have rights to the 401k proceeds; however, a court would have to decide based on the property rights of your state. This part of your question can't be conclusively answered here.

If both aren't processed within 30 days, request assistance from your state's insurance commissioner's office. Source(s): 16+ years insurance industry experience; 9+ years insurance law experience
