What is an MER (management expense ratio) - in language that i will understand?

It includes the trail commission (adviser receives), administration fees, and performance fees. Its not an actual amount that you pay - it reduces the unit price (hence your capital). The new name for MER is also the ICR (Indirect Cost Ratio).
