What type of tools or tips would you suggest for trying to calculate a stocks fair value?

I know it is a very broad question, but any advice would be much appreciated.

There is no such thing. A stock is worth what investors are willing to pay for it at the moment. Your job is to get in and out with a profit - that's all there is to it.
Thats absolute rubbish as any dealer will tell you.
You need to look for undervalued stocks in order to make a profit doh!!!!!

Terrible answer.......did you vote for yourself?

Compare the stats with other companies in the same field.
Try to see if the stock is under/overvalued at it's current market price.
I mean if you add up all it's assets, is it worth the price.
Also understand the sector it's in and whats happening around it.
