What are some things to be suspicious of when you think you are being forced to leave your job.?

The Ralphs store that I work at is hiring more people to work there.Normally, that would be o.k. if we were busy enough.Right now,it isn't that busy at all,yet they are hiring more people.Should i be suspicious, should I talk to my manager about that,to see if my job is in trouble?I have worked there almost ten years.Should I start applying for another job right away?Any suggestions?

Do you feel any pressure from boss? Is he complaining about your work, etc.? If the answer is yes, they might be planning to terminate your services. Your plan to talk to your boss is okay.
Peace and blessings!
Asking your boss if your job is in jeopardy the "right way" is a good idea, but only after you answer these questions. What have I done lately to deserve "replacement"? Was my recent evaluation at or above average? I have contributed_________recently to the company, therefore I deserve to keep my job. Have you been on time 99% of the time? Do you leave early? Stay late? Call out sick? Take long lunck breaks? If you can answer these questions or fill in the blanks POSITIVELY, then and only then should you schedule a meeting with your boss and let her/him know how much you enjoy your job, and that you are willing to do whatever it takes to keep your position.
if they try not to give any job to do and want you to be an outsider so you must wake up.don't give up and keep fighting for your position, you should proof to the staff that you are perfect employee and still useful for them, and at that time if they fire, you don't lose more than they and you can find your place and new job easily
Always ask before you start panicking. Ralphs is union, yes? What does your union rep have to say about this? It's not as easy as you might think to fire a union employee with 10 years of seniority.

Talking to your manager is also a good idea. Maybe the store is staffing up for a special promotion or expansion that you don't know about. Maybe they are training folks at your store who will then move to another location.

I wouldn't panic at this stage. Just gather info and then you'll have a better idea of how to proceed. Good luck.
just comment to the manager that u saw quite a few ppl being interviewed for a job at ur location. make a joke about it and see what he/she says
Check with other employees and see if they have heard anything. Dont be too upset about it. An employee with your years of employment shouldn't be likely to be laid off.
