What are some illegal interview questions?

I would like some examples of illegal interview questions? I thought it was illegal to ask if you have a misdemeanor (I thought it was okay to ask if you have a felony) I'm trying to brush up on my interviewing skills.

It is not illegal to hire a felon -- otherwise they would never be able to lead productive lives.

Improper questions in addition to the first posters:

How old are you? (They can ask if you are over a certain age, but they cannot ask your age)

Are you married or single?

That's a cool accent -- where are you from?

How many kids do you have? Source(s): http://jobsearch.about.com/od/interviews...
Are you pregnant? What is your race? Are you handicapped?
they dont ask they run background checks and it is illegal to hire a felon
there are no illegal interview questions, there are questions that will reek discrimination when you ask them. how old are you? do you have a car? (unless it applies to the job) do you plan on having children?
depends on the job you're applying for. usually they ask if you've had a misdemeanor besides a traffic violation.
In Ontario, Canada there are alot of questions that could be discriminatory and therefore considered illegal to ask during and interview.

The following are protected grounds under Human Rights Legislation,

Familly Status (Do you have childre? How will care for the kids while at work?)

Marital Status (Are you married? Do you plan on getting Married?)

Sexual Orientation (Are you Gay? Straight?)

Age (How old are you? We are looking for someone with a lot of energy, at your age do you think you will be able to keep up?)

Race / Colour (Are you of Native Decent?)

Religion (Are you Christian? Catholic? etc)

Physical / Mental Disability (I see you have an artificial leg, will that prevent you from doing your job as an engineer with us?)

Dependence on Alcohol and Drugs (We do not typically hire people who are past alcoholics because they are unstable, how would you prove me wrong?)

Sex ( As a women how will be able to keep up with the men while working in the mine?)

National or Ethnic Background ( You have an accent, you may be difficult to understand on the phone, how will this affect your job?)

Ancestry / Place or Orgin (I see you are originally from Africa, will this affect your work?)

Language (We do not typically hire spanish speaking people since our customer do not like this, how would you overcome that?)

Associations ( I see you are part of ABC Association, this will negatively affect our company, how will you overcome this?)

Pardon Convictions (Have you ever been convicted of a crime?)

So unless the company can prove that is a Bona Fide occupational requirement (meaning it is necessary for the job) they can not ask the question.

Most Provinces in Canada are similar with some diffecrences, same with the US. Please look up Human Rights in your area and see how they relate to employment law.
