Anyone with an Associates in Criminal Justice? |
I am planning to go to school to obtain my associates in Criminal Justice and if you have any advice for me please let me know! Once you have obtained your degree were jobs there for you? Does this degree give you options in this field? Is it WORTH getting this degree? AA in Criminal Justice (CJ) is not a particularly useful degree in my opinion. Many people get a CJ degree thinking it is the path to a law enforcement career and find it to be of little value. For law enforcement jobs, many agencies require that you have a four-year degree, but usually don't require it to be in CJ. In fact, because so many cops do have CJ degrees, you may actually be better off having a degree in business, computing, or accounting as you will stand out from the competition. I have a friend who got both a BS and MS in Criminal Justice. The only place he could find work was as a parole officer, a job he hated and which paid very poorly. He eventually quit and is now working as a security director for a private company. Good luck with the decision. Yeah it gives u an advantage I don't have one, but do know that you aren't saying what kind of jobs you are looking for. For example, if you want to work in a law firm as a legal secretary --it may help but not be enough. If you want a career in the legal industry, but don't want to be a lawyer -- try a paralegal program -- there is a link to good programs found here. http://www.abanet.org/legalservices/para... There are very few, if any jobs you can get with an AS in Criminal Justice. Most of them require you to have a BS or better. A job as a police officer, local, is the only thing I can think of, or a Bailiff. They only require a high-school diploma. In my state, you have to have a BS to get a job as a state trooper...same thing for the FBI. |
