More holidays?? |
I have heard that there is new government legislation being introduced that allows people with a low number of holidays to be legally entitled to more. What is this new legislation, when does it come into force and can you provide me a web reference for it please. Thankyou in advance for all your answers. The basics of holiday rights There is a minimum right to paid holiday, but your employer may offer more than this. The main things you should know about holiday rights are: * from 1 October this year you are entitled to a minimum of 4.8 weeks * the entitlement will increase again to 5.6 weeks from 1 April 2009 * those working part-time are entitled to the same level of holiday pro rata (so 4.8 then 5.6 times your usual working week) * you start building up holiday as soon as you start work * your employer can control when you take your holiday * you get paid your normal pay for your holiday * when you finish a job, you get paid for any holiday you鈥檝e not taken * bank and public holidays in Britain can be included in your minimum entitlement Have a look at this link http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/index.htm... - it gives lots of information on all sorts of employment rights and regs, as well as a lot of other info. No such thing.....there is no Federal Law that states that any employer has to give paid holidays off or even vacation time. Every worker now has the right to a minimum 4 weeks paid holiday, per holiday year. This 4 week entitlement should not include Bank Holidays. Therefore it is now illegal for a company to deduct bank hoildays from your annual holiday entitlement. Current Union Representitive. The UK appears to allow 4 weeks of holiday as stated above. HOWEVER, it depends on the number of days you work -- for example if you only work 3 days a week, you will only get paid for 3 days a week for each holiday week. There is a lot of information in the link below -- great stuff and it tells you what to do if you aren't getting paid too. It actually sounds really good -- I hope the US starts to adopt some of these policies. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/nm/index/l... Plus, the "more holidays" thing is going up in N. Ireland and this may be what you have heard: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/nireland/w... and here is the official announcement http://www.dti.gov.uk/employment/holiday... Currently, all full time workers are entitled to 20 days annual leave, including bank holidays. From 1 October, this will increase to 24 days, with a further increase to 28 days, probably from March 2009. |
