Anti-semitism in the workplace?

I'm a college student and I have an issue at the place where I work. One of the cooks at the restaraunt I work at is a local and thought it would be funny to tell me to "get in the oven" when he first met me. The man knows I'm Jewish but I'm not sure if he understood how offensive something like that can be. Needless to say, I'm very uncomfortable working with him. I spoke with my manager, who told me that unfortunately I have to work with him until I get promoted. This can take as much as 6 months and I don't know how much longer I can work with this disgusting hick. Should I quit and find a different job?

It would be all right (I guess) if it was a one time thing, but this guy always gives me crap and makes me extremely uncomfortable... I just don't know what to do.

Any issue such as this is just another example of low self esteem and a pathetic attempt at temporary superiority.

The anecdotal history of your ancestors in dealing with racial slurs is inspiring. Such as Disraeli's speech in the House of Commons after a personal attack by another member: " Yes, I am a Jew, and when the ancestors of the right honorable gentleman were brutal savages in an unknown island, mine were priests in the temple of Solomon.".

It will only take a very short stride to step over this moron. Don't walk around him. He's not worth it.Please start looking for a new job in a more positive environment. While you can report the situation to your state employment authority, it's up to you if you want to deal with it on that level.

Your manager's method of dealing with the problem is wrong. But, he may need this guy for whatever reason and has decided to put up with it. I would not respond to the cooks remarks and try to leave on a positive note when you find something new.

Good Luck!
look first of all u don't need to put up with people like that because you are better. your workplace shoudl be an environment where you feel comfortable not uncomfortable. What you should firts do is talk to this man about it. if he keepd up with his arrogant attitude and jokes leave. This is not right and u deserve better.good luck.
If there are other factors that make you want to leave the job then you ahead, but if you really like the job then don't let him bother you. Just ignore him, I know really lame advice, but I am serious.
First, talk to the man to tell him that you are offended by his comments. See if he stops. Then tell the manager again that the behavior has not stopped and it is making you very uncomfortable. If it does not stop, go to the HR department. This sounds like a "hostile work environment." The manager should take action, but often they do not because managers try to avoid confrontation.
