Does anyone knows what are the conditions requiered to work as a lawyer in Ireland? |
I am Irish but I have studied law outside Ireland and worked for two years as a lawyer. Now I wnat to get back to Ireland to work there... So I want to know what I should do.... You first have to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility from the Law Society of Ireland's Education Committee to to sit the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (QLTT) a conversion Test which enables lawyers qualified in certain countries outside the Republic of Ireland, to qualify as solicitors in this jurisdiction. Full details at the site below; Source(s): http://www.lawsociety.ie/displaycdaconte... you need to book a flight You need to pass the Law Society exams, as well as having a third level qualification in Law, which it sounds like you already have. Strictly speaking though, in the Irish legal system, there are no 'lawyers'. There are solicitors, who do most of the preparation work for a case outside of court, and barristers, who represent the different parties of a case in court. In order to work as a barrister, you must 'devil' for a certain period, I'm not sure exactly how long, which basically means doing an unpaid apprenticeship. This is all true to the best of my knowledge, but I could be wrong. I don't actually work in law myself, but my sister does, and I did work experience in the area of law a few years ago. I hope this helps, and that I haven't steered you wrong. Ireland ? Learn how to fight. |
