How much does a lawyer makes?

How much does a lawyer makes?

In the U.S., it depends on the type of law practiced and the attorney's location. Generally, attorneys in big cities make more money than attorneys in small towns. Intellectual property and real estate attorneys usually make more than government attorneys and public interest attorneys. Attorneys can make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, but most of us make about 90-110 thousand.

We also have to have doctoral degrees (at least 7 years of education after high school) to practice law. With those degrees come massive amounts of student loans. After five years as an attorney, I've almost paid my debts down to the point where I can think about buying a house in my city.

The attorneys who make the most money are also the attorneys who live in their offices. Literally. Source(s): I'm an attorney.
it depends on his knowledge
Depends on the type of lawyer, where they are, and experience. If you are a trial lawyer in NYC, you make more than a trial lawyer in Hooterville. And, if you win high-profile cases, your value increases dramatically.

I have one in NYC that I use, and he charges $150/hour and charges in 15 minutes increments even if I'm only on the phone with him for a minute. (I guess I have to pay for the time it takes his paralegal to pull my file, I don't know). He is not a trial lawyer, but deals with business contracts.
Partners at the firm i work make about 500/hr but all the money they make goes into the firm. The difference between a partner and a director or associate is that partners have their money invested. They set aside a salary for themselves as money to live on depending on how much money they have to put out to pay the staff and other expenses compared to the money they are bringing in.
At the largest private firms in the biggest markets, starting salary for a lawyer with no experience is $160K (I think some are paying even more than that). Partner salary is probably $300K to several million/year.
It depends on industry and location. Some attorneys in rural areas barely make $20 - $40 grand. In other areas, the salaries start at $160 grand (in New York and LA for really big firms) and go up from there.

Most firms also give a bonus based on receipts and other things -- for example, a partner in a firm may not work on a case, but may make a percentage just by bringing a client in.

You really have to give specifics on location, type of attorney, and the like.

According to the link below, the MEDIAN pay for an attorney right now is about $90K.
