One of my fingers is broken and I can not handle my job, can I get unemployment?

I broke a finger in an accident, as a salesperson it's not good for my reputation and I can not handle my job easily because it requires lifting goods. Am I eligible for unemployment and for how long?

Speak with your human resource department.
No not unemployment because there are other jobs you can do and unemployment is for people who get laid off, you still have a job. If you have long term or short term disability insurance you can use that. They will pay you during the time you are unable to work and are under doctors care. Otherwise you may have to use your sick or vacation time. If that is not possible, talk to your boss and see if there is something else you can do on "light duty" many jobs allow that because they would rather you be at work than to take off. In the future, invest in disability insurance. It is only about $20-$50 per month and will pay your salary in these types of emergencies. My short term disability insurance kept me afloat when I was out from work due to broken bones from a car accident.
You'd only get unemployment benefits if your job fired you- generally half your pay for 3 months. What you are talking about is disability benefits which your job may not pay or you may not qualify for. A broken finger isn't much of a disability- you have nine others to work with!
Probably not unemployment. Does your company offer short term disability? You might be able to use that but only if you can get a doctor to say that you are completely unable to do your normal work. However, you need to be prepared that will probably not be the case with a broken finger. You may just have to find a way to work around it. Can you take a trainee with you to do all the lifting for a few weeks?
You should be able to get sick leave. Talk to your human resources person and ask them to help you. They may reassign you to do something else until your finger heals.
Have you decided that you aren't able to perform your job, or has that decision come from your doctor and your company? You say you "can't perform your job easily" - but you CAN perform the job, correct? You could lift with your other hand, for example. Having a broken finger is not going to seriously damage your rep....

If you made the decision that you can't work - you don't qualify for anything.

If it's your doctor and your company that are saying you can't work - you don't qualify for unemployment but you may qualify for a state disability and/or job retraining program. Check with your state's disability program.
