I need legal advise on getting fired from a job? |
I was fired from my job beacause I took two photos from the companies' website of projects that I had done to put in my own portfolio. They said I was supposed to ask for permission to use those images (of my work) because they belong to the company.They did not come talk to me or ask me about it before making the decision of firing me. Is there anything I can do, or was it for them to do this? I don't think these were grounds for termination. Help?? I think you need to move on. Since most employers have you sign a confidentiality agreement or something similar, your work, creativity and abilities are considered theirs when the tasks are completed on their time and under their facilitative control. Basically- if you got paid and this was a task assigned to you as a "work assignment" and you used their equipment/supplies to complete the task it is the company's property. End of story. Your employee hand book probably mentioned something along those lines as well. You are lucky that they only chose to terminate you. Taking company property is grounds for legal action. Most states are "at will" meaning the employer can terminate you at any time; therefore, the employer can terminate you at any time. If you did not sign a confidentiality agreement- you should be good to find work elsewhere. Do not use the photos in your portfolio; you are only asking for trouble if you do. Start looking and move on to something new; but learn from this experience. Good Luck. employment attorney and ask if the first appointment is free! Skip the attorney and start looking for a new job. yes they can if and only if it says on the web sight that it belongs to them or at the bottom it says copyright if it does not have that you can use it. |
