Don't spend any of the money; but contact them, in writing, sent certified, explaining the issue. See what comes of it. There is a point when the money legally becomes yours. That will vary by state. An attorney can advise. A call is usually free.
You should tell them. They will go through an audit eventually, realize their mistake, and try to collect it all back.
Are you sure the money is not accrued sick pay or vacation pay?

If you are sure it is not your money, call the employer and tell them of the error and also have your bank stop accepting the money! RETURN anything you are sure is NOT yours immediately!
Whatever you do, don't spend the money. Contact the HR dept there and get direction from them. Whatever correspondance you send them, send it by certified mail and keep a copy for your records. It may be as simple as wiring the money direct back to them...

You should not pay taxes on the money you didn't legally earn. Use the amount that should be on your last correct paystub from them. If they report a different amount, you will be able to show why.
Honestly, everyone here is going to tell you to return them.

Let's just say I wouldn't spend it. Until like 20 years from now, because you might get a letter saying either credit their account or be issued w/ a suit.
Not only will they try to recover their money, they will most likely attempt to recover lost interest. It may seem unfair or suspiciously legal, but the threat of legal action could make the fight seem not worth it.

In other words, it is best to get it fixed sooner rather than later.
Contact the HR department and get the error corrected. Ask them to make sure they reduce any amount they show you earned by the amount that you've returned to them so that you won't be on the line for the taxes on the money.

If they do make a mistake on the W-2, ask them to file an amended W-2 on your behalf with the correct figures so you aren't taxed on income you didn't actually earn/keep.

The HR Department and/or Payroll Department will help you get this all figured out.

(it reminds me of Milton in Office Space...who was supposed to have been let go long ago, but he kept getting paid & kept coming to work)
