Would you hire a paralegal (legal assistant) with a felony? |
Would you hire a paralegal (legal assistant) with a felony? no. I have mixed feelings about that. On one hand, it would make me a bit nervous, but on the other, obviously the person has gotten their act together enough to secure a good job like that. Its a tough call, I guess it would depend on what the felony was for. You know, I probably would. It depends on more factors than what you are giving! What it depends on is how long ago the felony was and what it was for. I mean if it was before this person even went to school and it was for some high school crap than I do believe that that person may have redeemed themselves. No way. This is someone that is going to help you with legal matters when they themselves need all the help they can get in that department. I would stick with thoses that not only know the law but also obey it. I probably would, but it would also depend upon the situation. Meaning when was the felony and what it was for. I would probably still hire them. Just because someone has gotton a felony doesn't mean they are a bad person or anything. But it really would depend upon the situation and their qualifications for the job. I dont know how acurate the Law shows are on TV, but there was one I caught awhile back that it was found the assistant did have a felony charge against them (her) The law office tried to buy time because she did good work, but couldnt legally employ a felon. They went before the Judge, or they would lose their License to practice law. SO, based on that Show .. NO .. it wouldnt be legal for me to hire that person. And I wouldnt want to put my practice at risk. Depends on the person's qualifications, the felony, and the type of work the paralegal would do. One of my former paralegals spent 5 years in a federal penitentiary |
