Is it legal to NOT list jobs you've previously held on a job application...?

...for instance, I've had 5 jobs in the last year and have been fired from two. One of them was a major corp. I worked at for about 8 months, so I would figure I would have to put that one on there. But another one was just a locally owned car wash that I worked at for a week. Is it really neccesary to fill that space with a place I worked at a week or an actual legitimate job I held?

NEVER lie on an application.

it is your perogitive to leave out information, however if there is a gap in your employment, it will be noticed.

i would recommend that you be honest. mention that you were fired. talk about what you were fired for, and how you've since resolved that problem so that you won't have the same problem at a new job.

better for them to find out from you than someone else.
it has nothing to do with legality

if you don't list the jobs your employer will fire you for falsifying your application once he/she finds out you held those other jobs.

it is up to you whether you think an employer is likely to learn about a job you held for a week.
It's legal to with-hold information, but I would'nt advise it. If they find out it's grounds to be fired, again. And you'll have to explain time gaps in your employment history. If you start off with a lie, it's not likely you'll last anywhere. Your past will catch up with you sooner or later.
I think I would leave out the car wash becaue it was a weeks employment and I don't feel the fact you were fired is worth claiming the job you worked for a week. I see nothing illegal about this.
There is a program called theworknumber.com.

I would suggest that that you pay $14.00 and put your SS# in and see what comes up with your work history.

This is a very, very secure site and most major employers contribute to it such as Countrywide, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. and is the #1 employment verification site used by HR people and lenders as well.

If it shows up on that site, you had better list it.
I never put down all my jobs that I had. I would however request a copy of your free credit report @ annualcreditreport.com or call Trans Union toll free at 877-322-8228. You can get all 3 thru them at no charge. When you get your reports, it should show who you worked for.
