What are the aspects of employment covered by law? |
What are the aspects of employment covered by law? Too many to put in an answer on here!! That question is so broad that it's just about impossible to answer, especially without knowing where you are. Could you tell us what specific aspect of employment is your main concern, in terms of whether laws cover it? Things like the minimum wage, wether the state happens to have a right-to-work law. Or wether they happen to have a at-will work law or not. Just some of the things considered under labor law. There are a lot. They are not only national laws, but law from the EU as well. First, any form of employment needs a contract. The employee must have a contract of employment. Then there are a whole series of laws that relate to the conditions of work. These include; - hours worked; - minimum wage; - age, gender and racial discrimination; - certain work, life balance issues; - holiday entitlements; - health and saftey; - training; - union rights and consultation etc. - redundancy and dismissal Employment law is different in different countries. Se the web site site by the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) or the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (employment section) As the other people who have answered have said, your question is too broad to be fully answered. However, check out www.directgov.uk where you can find lots of information on employment rights and regulations. If you are in the US look at www.eeoc.gov, www.dol.gov, www.nlrb.gov. That covers most of the legal issues. www.lawyer4employees.com |
