Job interview question? |
I had an interview with a district court and was asked this question: what do you think of all the people coming thru here going to court? I said that probably 1/2 of them are not law abiding citizens and the other half just had a bad day, made a wrong decision. What would have been the appropriate answer. Perhaps something like "All people deserve a right to a fair trial -- I am sure that many did commit the crime they are accused of. Many may not have. Unless and until I am in a position to hear both sides of the story and make judgments, I don't see fit to have opinions of them." Well, that's not how I would've answered it, considering that divorces and child issues are also handled in court. Probably a better response would have been something like, "Each person coming to court has a story of their own, and each one is individual. If they are coming here as the perpetrator of a crime, then I think they deserve their day in court and be allowed to pay their debt to society and hopefully learn from the experience. People coming to court should be judged on the circumstances surrounding their appearance in court." Paralegal I would have said I had no idea, and it was none of my business. |
