I recently was granted intermittent FMLA for a medical condition. Today I was too ill to work and my boss?

wants a doctor's note. My doctor has given me medication for my illness and some days it is just too much to go in too work. Is there a way to get an acceptable doctor's excuse in such a situation without having to go to the doctor everytime I am unable to work?

I understand your bosses need to verify you are ill and not just abusing the system AND I understand the doctor visit issue.

Can you get a fax machine and then just call into the doc's nurse when needed and have her fax you over a statement to present to the employer??
If you have a good relationship with your doctor and he has prescribed medicine before for this condition, he should have no problem faxing a note to your employer or sending you one in the mail.

Your boss may not be an a-hole. Some companies require him to keep a record of this kind of thing. For some reason many American companies are really anal about people being off sick. This is despite all the research that shows that forcing workers to come in when sick is counter productive and actually costs business more money than letting people take the time off.
Also remember that he's got to treat everyone the same, FMLA or not. When someone has repeated sick days, usually employers require a doctor's note. Take the advice of the others and get your doctor to fax one over each you need a day off due to the problems he's treating.
If your doctor won't write you notes for an ongoing illness without seeing you first, then you need to find a new doctor.
Not if you want to keep the benefit for FMLA

Thats like getting a Get out of free jail card.
The notice from your doc should specify the need for intermittent leave. Many companies have a form that the health care provider can use to specify this, but if yours does not, just have your doctor write that due to your illness, it is necessary for you to take intermittent leave for the next X months and that you should work reduced hours as necessary.

Good luck and feel better.
