Is it legal for my boss to have the office bugged? |
He has no reason to believe something is going on. I dont like the fact that you cant have a conversation with a coworkier without him listening! Sure its legal. It is also vrey possible that there are "reasons" that you are unaware off. You can also think of it as protection, it would be proof that you are not doing anything questionable. I'm not a lawyer. However, I suspect it's legal for him to bug all parts of the office where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, such as the bathrooms. Whether it creates a toxic, distrusting workplace is another question. Personally, I'd start looking for a new job, and when I gave notice, I'd tell the boss why. Quit! Legal or not it's his business and there really isn't much you can do about it. You may want to ask a lawyer and pursue charges but you will definitely not be any happier there if you do. I'd find another job. it's legal there is no expectation of privacy in an office however, a restroom is different Actually, that may be illegal. I know they can install cameras, I know they can monitor the phone, but I don't think it's legal to bug the office where you can hear EVERYTHING. I would actually call the DA's office or the local police department, because that could potentially be criminal. Yes, it is legal. It's not your private residence. An employer can also record phone conversations without your knowledge as well inspect e-mails. It's all company property. How do u know? (just curious) It is most likely legal because there are many people who steal from their employers and this may be just one preventative tool that owners use to curtail such theft. Employee theft has been the cause of business failure and/or increased cost to their customers. I think another thing bosses use such techniques for is determining who is loyal and who is not. If questioned by a boss everyone would indicate that they are loyal and trustworthy but then some would be lying. Why not use the fact to bolster yourself in the bosses eyes(ears actually). Two can play this game, can't they?? |
