What is legal research ?>?

Legal Research is generally the research done on legal cases. Depending on the type of case, it may be looking for Precedence, researching laws, or researching prior cases of similar concepts.

Generally it requires an account with the "major" research sites or access to a law library. (The two most common sites are West and Lexis Nexis)
"Illegal search" is forcing someone to undergo a search of personal effects or property without sufficient probable cause.

Presumably "legal search" is having cause.

"Research"? Not sure where you're going with this.
Legal research is looking at statutes (laws) and court cases for answers. The majority of legal research can be done on line, usually without cost. There are companies who are attempting to become a monopoly on holding laws and court opinions in a database, so that they can charge enormous fees (by the minute) for people to look at on line. The exact same legal research can be done using books in a law library.
