Is there any recourse my friend can take?


Basically in short: she lives in Canada and found a job in NYC for 6 months. They emailed her and said that once she got the Visa stuff in order, they would hire her.

This is what she said:

"My supposed employer in NYC e-mailed to say they weren't going to hire me.

After telling me they would hire me if I would get the Visa stuff in order. They didn't respond to my e-mails regarding Visa help for two weeks, and then said I was crazy for quitting my THREE wonderful jobs, selling my apartment, and buying a flight. "

I should also mention that she left probably around 50 messages with their secretary and on the boss's cell.

Obviously she's pretty upset. Is this just one of those "let's learn a lesson!" moments or is there something that can be done?

I remember my sister tellin' me of a case just like this. Person gave up everything (and he had a family) to come to the states and then the company turned around and tell him no job they changed there mind. Question is did your friend do her own paperwork and she paid? As long as she still has that original email with the job offer that is available as long as she obtains her visa she certainly has legal action especially since she literally gave up everything on the promise of this job. She needs to get in touch with an employment lawyer in NYC, but if she no longer has that mail with the job offer and proof she gave up everything she has no case.
