Career References?

Does anyone have any idea of how to see if you are getting bad or negative references from past Employers or persons who you have put as a reference for employment?

You will know if they are giving you a bad reference when they don't call you after the hiring interview (usually the second interview). If you suspect this, you should ask them pointblank if they put in a good word for you.
Have a friend call and act like they are a potential employer.

If you are getting a bad refernce and it is not tangible or true contact a higher up in that company and let them know what is going on. Tell them you want a letter of recommendation and for them to refraim from slandering your good name. If that doesn't work, call a lawyer.
That is supposed to be confidential. Simply put, if you suspect you're getting bad references from certain employers, don't use them as references anymore. Your references should be hand-picked to only include the people who know will say good things about you.
Some coutries have a Freedom of Information Act.

You have not stated where you are from.

Good Luck
