Can an exfelon become a Corrections Officar? What other job restrictions are there on Felons? |
I know there is a lot of grey area here. I can't seem to get a solid answer. Nurse? Real Estate Agent? Computer Tech? If a Felon wanted to go to school, what directions should be avoided? you can not be a nurse (RN) in California if you are a felon...I don't know about the others but that I do know Any safety sensitive position will be out. The includes law enforcment, health care, security, etc. Beyond that it is up to the employer on who they want to hire. If you still have contact with your probation officer see if they can help you with more specifics on this question. Does the facility of incarceration have job assistance / training for him? How about through a government agency that his probation officer can help with? As an felon let me help you. You are restricted by some practical considerations and you own self limits. Some employers won't hire convicted felons - just because. You must deal with that on the front end. I have found that service careers and sales are easiest for those convicted of felonies. Further, the type of felony has an effect as well. If it were a dangerous crime people (employers) will have more concern than for other felonies such as (theft) if you were working in an area that you couldn't replicate the crime. Being self-employeed is easiest...as you are your own boss. The simpliest way to accomplish that is through Multi-Level Marketing. While many readers may frown on that...it does work and many do well. On a personal level, I was convicted and served time in Federal prison in 1995. Since then I have become a Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for a publically traded company, an author (with a book due out this fall) and a professional speaker http://www.chuckgallagher.com . I speak to businesses and college/university students about choice and their consequences. I have made bad choices that had negative consequences and great choices that yeilded positive results. My best advice...don't limit yourself by your past actions. You may have made a mistake - YOU ARE NOT THE MISTAKE. That is in the past so create your future. |
