Is it legal to make someone work everyday?

The company where my fiance works is making basically everyone work eveyday, with NO days off, 70 hour work weeks, for 2 1/2 months. This doesnt seem like it should be legal. He is a full time employee, not a contractor. We live in PA. Thanks for any help.

The answer depends on a few things. For example, if he is paid by the hour, there are restrictions on the number of days he can work in a week. If he is salaried, unfortunately there is no limit - salaried employees are considered to be "on the clock" 24/7.

Hourly employees can work large amounts of OT as long as they receive one day off in every 14 days. There are some exceptions to this rule, and it varies by industry classification. If he is not getting any days off, it appears to me that there is a violation here, but I'm not sure what industry he works in.

Visit www.dol.gov and find the "wage order" for your fiance's industry (manufacturing, oil refinery, food service, retail, etc. are some of the more common industrial classifications.) There will be a section entitled "hours of work" that will give you the detail on what is permissible for his industry and location.

Hope this helps - good luck to you both.
it depends on the countrys laws, but most westernised countries have a limit of usually 45 hours some less. some a lil more You are allowed to do as much overtime as you want but but they aren't allowed to force you to work a 70 hour week of that I'm sure of.
Yes, it is illegal.....He should have at least a day off....70 hr. weeks is alotttt, and he should have some time off at least... Have him look at company policy/rules.....And see if it says anything about employees having some time off...If it doesn't, then he should take it a step further, cuz they may be taking advantage of his labor...Good luck!
Under Federal Labor Law every employee has the right to refuse to work on religious days (holidays or sabbath) without being penalized. Other than that unless PA allows something else, it is legal.
There are also certain jobs that have state and federal limits on hours (truck drivers for instance can only work 60 hours every 6 days and must then have a day off.)
hi sad to hear of ur fiance's mean employer... well a person can be asked to work all the days of the week but not more than 8 hours a day(ecluding lunch break)........however he should be paid an over time of very extra hour of work after completion of the standard week orking hours.........that should be fair enough rite?......afterall why should we work for charity for people who allready got the money....ask him to apply for aN OVERTIME...GOOD LUCK
I wish I could work 70 hours a week for 10 weeks. My pay checks would be whoppers. The company has special needs for all the labor and they are will to pay the price in overtime. The last he does not want to hear from you is ya cannot be together--your working too much--- take sick. What you are going to do is pamper him--- wash his back--- cook for him--- And take cate of all his needs -- This your time to shine and show him how much ya love him.. Do not ever say or critize any thing about his job. He pays the bills with his job. The job comes first... Don't call on the cell phone and run the bill up..
Be a good Maxwell House girl friend and take care of your man...
There is nothing illegal about a company wanting their employees to work a longer work week. He is entitled to time and a half after 40 hours/week if he is an hourly employee. While the normal work week is considered 40 hours in the U.S., there is no law which restricts the number of hours anyone can work unless they drive a truck or pilot an airplane. I would think he would appreciate the extra pay. However, I understand how you and he might want more time to be with one another.
