In California, can an employer legally require you to stay several minutes after your shift?



.....just because it'd be convenient for the rest of the staff.

Yes, but if you are paid hourly instead of a salary, those minutes should count toward overtime. If you are on a salary (and are what is known in California as an "exempt" employee), of course, you would not get paid for it.
