How long do you have to be in one position before you can apply for a higher one?

How long do you have to be in one position before you can apply for a higher one?

This depends on the company you work for, some company's require you wait 6 mths, 1 yr, (I've even seen 2 yrs) your best bet is contact the H.R. dept where you work. Not only can they tell you the time frame they might even give you suggestions on what you need to do to prove you deserve the other job. Good Luck Source(s): Experiance

It depends on the situation. Most of the time, you are not in the first position long enough to apply for the second position until you fully know your duties on the first position.

However, if you spoke with HR upon hiring, and they would have given you a higher position but one was not available, you should be able to apply immediately -- if you feel comfortable doing it.

Generally, if you have to ask, it is probably not right for you at this time.
