What are some ways of making it through a mentally stressful work situation?

All jobs are temporary .
You can always go shopping for a better job sooooo
If the job is getting out of wack ,
Start going for interviews and when you get an offer . . .
You can then choose to cut the one loose or stick with it .

You did not say if this was like your life career choice (you are a doctor) or if it's just at burger king to make rent $$$ .

Anyways , remember , it is a free country , and you can always change jobs .

Find your little tricks to help alleviate the stress - breathing exercises, stretches you can do at your desk (like stretching your hands high above your head while rolling your neck). You can also take breaks as much as work allows - for instance - even if you're not a smoker - take a 5 minute break just to get some fresh air outside. Make sure you take lunch and if at all possible leave the building - even if you just eat outside. Make sure you have pictures of family or friends on your desk so you can take a mental break whenever you need by letting the picture let your memory take you away for a minute!

Start looking for a job in another district. Other than that, do your job as best you can and keep to yourself as much as possible.
Get out of it...why do you feel you need to make it through? Life is to short, unless you're making over 250,000 a year, then deal with it for a few years..
by planning for the evenings or weekends knowing that at those times (or most of those times) that you're on your "own time" and feel comfort in that during those times you can destress and do whatever you want to do.

Knowing that you are only one person and can't help every one of your students.

maybe you can use your lesson plans from year to year rather than re-creating them each year. Same with the exams.

maybe you don't have to lunch with those teachers who bring you down.

maybe you can use relaxation tapes or self-hypnosis tapes to keep yourself "enthusiastic" in the classroom.

Maybe you can take more B vitamins (like B12) that will strengthen you against stressful situations.

Maybe create a fun and interesting home life, like thinking about your spouse, mate and children, taking pictures, celebrating things (looking forward to and enjoying holidays and outings), etc.
Relax, Take a deep breath and decide if you really need to be at this job..
Can you transfer?
Move to another field of work or to a different position that might suit you better.
