I am sweating out a background check for work?

with the Catholic Church, working in a parish. My credit is poor. I have worked hard to finish college late in life. I moved from a gang infested neighborhood and gave up my house to foreclosure because I was afraid of getting shot -- had bullets coming through my windows regularly. I'd just had enough. I've tried to keep my difficult personal life separate from my academic life --but this background check has me spooked. I'm not scared about being a sex offender or anything like that - but the credit part is so shaming. Thanks. If anyone out there knows how to proceed, please help! I am sweating bullets.

youd be surprised at how many people have bad credit. if the position isnt a financial one, your credit report will probably not be a big factor. when you have your next sit-down with whomever, just say what you wrote here. good luck!
Try not to worry about it too much. As far as not passing the check, it depends on what they're going to be strict on, and what they'll be lenient on. Many places will understand the circumstances behind your foreclosure. Good luck to you, and congratulations on your success.
Unless you're applying for a position which deals with money the background check is mostly going to be a criminal check. Your best bet is being upfront and honest if you have any concerns. You'd be surprised at how many people have poor credit, you should be fine. Good Luck!!
Experiance
Don't sweat the background check. What the background check is for is for a criminal record, specifically, any kind of indecent exposure, child abuse, sexual assault, etc.

The background check is something that is done on EVERYONE who is around children. It is part of teh Catholic Church's efforts to prevent sexual abuse of children.
