NC working law?

I recently left a job at a local grocery store a little over a month ago and was thinking about returning to work there, but when I called them they stated that once you are listed as terminated, as in a 2 weeks notice as well, you cannot work for the company for 6 months. A friend told me something similar. What I want to know is whether or not this is state law or possibly company policy and why is it that I cannot return to work for this company until 6 months?

That's their policy, and its 100% legal. There is no law requiring an employer to hire someone.
pretty sure its company policy
