Husband asked for a job transfer, then just happened to get fired a week later? |
We live in an expensive state, and my husband wanted to transfer to another state that was less costly. After asking and being told it would have to be agreed upon with the people above his boss, he needs to just wait and see. So he continued to do his work, now, he found out he got fired for not doing good work. I find this a coincidence since he has been here for a while now, and has never gotten a warning for unsatisfactory work. Is this retaliatory termination? They dont wanna transfer him, so they fired him? I dunno...seems like more than a coincendence to me. His asking for the transfer may have inadvertently put him under the microscope and in a position where they were reviewing his work before making the decision whether or not they should transfer him. Maybe they had a position in mind for him, wanted to see if he was qualified and then didn't like what they saw. It isn't at all uncommon to review a candidate for another position this way. It could be more than a coincidence, however there is nothing necessarily wrong with it. It may also be that they reviewed his work, and someone made a comment "we don't want him here, he is pretty sloppy" when the transfer was brought up. So, it may be that he brought it to their attention by asking for the transfer. WITH MY MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE : SORRY HE HAD IT COMING I am sorry for the result, and unfortunately don't have enough info to find out why. So, first - make sure he files for unemployment (it will cost his old employer, so don't feel bad) Second - Get his resume spruced up ASAP. Edit it so it is bulletproof. Third - Contact any/all potential references, and let them know your husband is actively looking and get their OK and current contact info for the employers to call/email them. Fourth - Reach out to his old company's competitors. They just might like a guy right out of his company. Fifth - Join/network via Linked In Sixth - If applicable have him look into TheLadders, Netshare, Sixfigurejobs, etc. These are sites that are supported by a reverse fee structure (Free to recruiters and companies to post jobs, fees to receive them.) This model separates the C and B players from the A-players. Seven - Make list of all the potential companies he would like to work for - look around your home at the products and services that you are loyal to. Same exercise on the computer, the garage, etc. Start networking into those companies. Eight - Step back, take a breath and realize that losing a job is far less than having a heart attack.. Fourth - www.offthehookjobs.com Sounds like when the brass took a look at his work record, they decided to get rid of him. Sorry, but there's nothing illegal here. "Retaliatory" termination is for employees who blow the whistle on wrongdoing, report harassment, or try to unionize. |
